Academy & Town History

The common knowledge is that Fulton Academy was founded by Miss Audrey May Fulton in 1901. The more complex truth is that the entire thing started in late 1898, when she purchased half of the island the Academy now resides on. However someone else had also bought part of the island, the other half to be exact. The buyer went be the name of Lord Orrick Kenward who used his land to found and construct the town of Headesroll around the same time as the Academy was being built.

Kenward wasn't too pleased with the fact that he had to share the island with a woman. The two seemed to be instant mortal enemies with opposing principals. Mistress Fulton believed to the depths of her soul that they should exist alongside the normal humans of this earth while Lord Kenward believed that he should rule alongside all manner of mythical creatures. Interesting part was that Kenward himself was a mere human. As time moved on Kenward’s aggression grew and soon there were attacks on the academy and surrounding associates of Audrey. Despite his wealth it seemed amazing that Orrick could bring together such a force to bear against the academy walls. Both sides had enlisted Walkers among their ranks, though how Orrick managed to persuade them is sure to be a grim and horrific tail and soon enough Fulton was forced to react to protect her students.

She and a small force of teachers, guardians and walkers met Orrick’s dark companions in a skirmish of black gun powder and magic. Through the haze of terrible power and deafening gunfire, Fulton rose victorious and Lord Orrick Kenward was found dying with a gunshot wound to his stomach. Although no official records have been given by Mistress Fulton or any official, the old story goes that as the man lay dying, his eyes flickered and were replaced with two pools of the chaotic warp so strong that those looking on had to look away and with his last breath he spoke in such an unnatural voice that it ran down the spines of even the Walkers. “This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper” The words from the famous poem ‘The Hollow Men’. Many speculate to the authenticity of the story and more importantly of the words meanings and still to this day, people go missing and some claim to watch their loved one’s eyes flicker with that same destructive gaze and suspicion runs deep through those who knows the stories. Something bad might just be out there, waiting.

Now, The Town and Academy are at peace, albeit a few old grudges and the dark days of wars and killings are mostly behind them both. We can only hope that it stays that way and that Fulton can keep the peace and protect all on the island from the dark that nightmares bear.
